2024 Annual Image Competition Official Rules and Regulations
- All entry fees must be paid at time of image submission. PPWV Image Competition is open
to members and non-members
- Each photographer's submissions must be accompanied by a handling fee of $12.00 per entry for members and $18.00 per entry for
- Entries must be submitted online to www.printcompetition.com by 9 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
Payment must be made when entering.
No entries will be accepted after the deadline. Only one entrant per submission. Studios may not
enter as a studio. Entries accepted from individuals only. You must be a paid member of PPWV at the time of entry/upload to be eligible
for Photographer of the Year. Non-members are not eligible for these distinctions.
- No names or logos of the photographer or studio may appear anywhere on the entry.
- Entrants may enter as many images as they wish in any category.
- All album entries may contain the work of more than one photographer.
- A subject may appear in more than one image,
provided that they are entirely different (background, clothing and concept). A subject that appears in an album may be entered as an individual entry provided the same rule is adhered to. Any violation of this rule will result in all images being disqualified.
- An image may not be entered in an Annual PPWV image competition more than once,
regardless of treatment or format IF the entry has received a merit score of 80 or above in a previous Annual PPWV competition. The entrant’s entire submissions may be disqualified if this rule is violated. Entries may be entered at the Fall Meeting and again at the Following Spring Convention.
- Judges are not eligible to enter.
- Images made or taken by students at school, institute, styled shoots, seminars or teaching
programs are not eligible for submission.
- PPWV will not be liable for image theft of images entered, whether it occur in person or via online means.
- PPWV will not be liable for any entrant that has not received a model release for each entry in judging. It is the responsibility of the entrant to
obtain permission of any and all subjects submitted.
- Any questions covered or not covered by these rules will be submitted to The Competition Chair and/or Juror’s Chairman for consideration. Their
decision is final.
- All entries in every category are required to have a title or they will be disqualified. Entries marked “Untitled” or “No Title” will be considered a
violation of this rule.
- ALL photographic elements (MUST have been created by the entrant! No third-party imagery or stock photography is allowed. Non-photographic filters and actions produced by third parties that enhance characteristics of an image but do not add elements to an image are permitted except for in the Reportage and Sports
categories. - Embellishments such as strokes, brushes (such as fog, smoke, lightning, etc.) ARE permissible.Additional embellishments to album pages are acceptable as long as they are part of the presentation and not the photographic
- NO image or elements of any image created using Artificial Intelligence are accepted. All elements must be the photographic creation of the entrant. No part of the image can be created with AI software using text inputs. Text inputs in AI software generate images based onwords added by a human. These creations are de- rived from unlicensed copyrighted images and are infringements.
Using AI generated elements will
result in the entrants entire case being disqualified.
- Uploaded files must be sized so the longest dimension is 4,000 pixels (20 inches at 200 ppi). Each file must contain an embedded
color profile of either sRGB or Adobe RGB1998 and be saved at a JPEG quality setting of 10.
POINT SCORING SYSTEM
The point system for scoring will be as follows: 100-95 Exceptional
94-90 Superior
89-85 Excellent
84-80 Deserving of Merit 79-76 Above Average
75-74 Average
73-70 Acceptable
69- 0 Unacceptable
All entries scoring 70 or higher will be put on public display after the competition unless requested otherwise to The Competition Chair

PPWVMERITAWARD
The purpose of the PPWV Merit Award is to encourage high quality professional photography through out the state of West Virginia. Each in-state member who has
received a Blue Ribbon in PPWV's Spring Print Competition will receive one (1) merit.
Trophy winners will receive one (1) additional merit.
The maximum number a single entry can win is two (2).Only

Must have entered the previous Fall Image Competition to be eligible for PPWV POTY
All trophies are awarded via closed judging and are not determined by score. Photographer and Wedding Photographer of the Year are awarded by highest score of the entrant's top 4 high scoring images. In the event of a tie, it goes to the top 5, then top 6. If a tie still results, the tie breaker falls to the judges who will determine a winner based on the body of work.
OPEN ART CATEGORY EXPLANATION
The Open Art Category is a special category created to showcase the talents and creativity of the entrant without the restrictions and limitations of regular categories. Entries can be of any nature, any size and can be created in any manner. Each entry will be judged as it’sown separate and individual creation as a whole. Creativity, technique, presentation and impact will all be factored into the scoring and is totally subjective to each individual judge.

25 merits have been accumulated. This award will be given each time a member acquires 25 merits
accompanied by a physical representation. Delivery and transportation of the physical entry will be the responsibility of the entrant and must be delivered to the juding room by 9 AM the day of the competition. The physical representation will be judged if one is entered.Examples include, but are not limited to:
hand colored and/or brush stroked prints, transparencies, digitally altered images and otherwise creatively printed works on any and all substrate. Cell phone images, film photography, Lomography or whatever you want. Your imagination is the only limit in this category! Show us what you got!
