How to become a Certified Professional Photographer Certified Professional Photographer designation empowers photographers to be more knowledgable, successful & technically equipped industry professionals.
- Declare your candidacy. To get started complete the candidacy form on PPA.com/CPP. The application fee is $200.
- 2. Prepare for the CPP exam with the CPP exam resources on PPA.com.
- Take the exam, online or in-person. You can take the exam at PPWV conventions with Laura giving the test. Have to contact Laura (304-743-8281 or lauramoul@aol.com) 4-6 weeks prior to the convention.
- Submit your Technical Image Evaluation after passing the CPP exam.
Certification Exam The exam is comprised of 100 multiple choice questions. Candidates will have two hours to complete the exam. A minimum passing score is 70%. Candidates can take the exam as many times as needed during the two-year candidacy (once every 30 days).
Exam Resources: Test specifications, CPP prep classes, Flash cards, Study guides, FAQs, Social Community, Sample tests, Educational videos, Suggested reading.
Technical Images Evaluation After the CPP exam, candidates are eligible to participate in the Technical Image Evaluation. Evaluations are held 5 times a year. The evaluation requires candidates to submit the three assigned images created with ‘technical-image kit’ and set-up guide.
All images are submitted in RAW format and will demonstrate understanding of photographic concepts including depth of field, camera angle, exposure, lens compression, white balance, light sources, and file handing criteria.
Technical Image Evaluation Resources: image kit & ordering guide, evaluation checklist, equipment list, lighting diagrams, evaluation setup guides, lighting scenarios, sample images & educational videos.
.Once you passed your exam and image evaluation you will have access to the CPP.com that holds resources to help with marketing and branding.

And remember every 3 years, you will be due to recertify, showing your commitment to staying at the top of your game. One way to recertify is Continuing education (attendance at conventions).
